Pre-K Counts
Pre-K Counts provides no-cost pre-kindergarten education for eligible children ages 3 and 4. This program, established by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, “gives children a chance to learn, become excited about school and be better students.”
Quality pre-kindergarten helps 3- and 4-year-old children learn the skills they need to do well in school. It prepares them before they enter kindergarten and grade school, so they are less likely to struggle keeping up. Pre-K Counts helps prepare children for learning reading and math. It also helps with other important school skills, like paying attention, following directions and getting along with others.
Our experience shows that a strong, early start in pre-kindergarten gives your child a leg up. It not only may help them do better in kindergarten and grade school, but may also improve their chance of going on to college or career training and getting a better job.
The Pre-K Counts program is available free of charge to eligible families. Wrap-around child care services are available at ALSM’s Growing Years Early Learning Center locations for an additional fee.
Both Growing Years Early Learning Center locations have a STAR 3 (out of 4) rating through the PA Keystone STARS, a voluntary statewide quality initiative program.
